My wife is planning to go for H4 visa stamping in October. My question is can she go alone and what kind of documents she need. Our I-485 applications have reached USCIS on July 2nd. Any reply will be greatly appreciated.

Can people share their experience with same day counter passport collection from the vfs courier center at Chennai.
Reason I ask is, I and my wife have a 9AM appointment on 14th August. And Aug 15th being a holiday on account of India's Independence Day. Since we have to be in US on the 16th August to file for I485, getting the visa on the 16th would be too late. Therefore, it's critical that we collect the passport the same day.
Is anyone else in a similar situation? Should I inform the consular of our same night travel plans or is that ill-advised?

I am holding MCA with 10+ years experience. My degree got evaluated to be equivalent to MS in US.
Just to let you know switching from EB3 to EB2 is not as simple as one would think. I assume you are aware of it.
To switch you need to start from Labor and be careful with the job requirements. And then your educational qualification and work experience.
Here are the EB2 minimum requirement.
JOB should require minimum of Bachelors degree with 5 years experience or Masters with or without experience.

you are no more eligible for H1B extension. h1b extension/transfer are doable as long as you are in h1b.

Thanks to everyone for such rapid and helpful replies. Dbevis asked what I was trying to achieve. I should have mentioned this; I'd come across the concept of hyperfocal distance and its calculation. I realised that I had no idea what the focal length of the zoom lens is at any setting (other than at the wide-angle (and telephoto) end of the zoom scale). Having said all that, by putting in some trial numbers into the hyperfocal distance equation - representing the focal lengths at the bottom end of the zoom range and at various logical aperture settings - it turns out that the furthest hyperfocal distance I'm likely to encounter is about 10 feet. Now, I must see if theory is borne out by practice. I have had the camera 4 years now and I never seem to stop learning something more about it.

You have to use I-824 if you change the consulate, if it is a consular case. If your I-94 is extended within america, there is no need. However because of PIMS, it is better to initiate a I-824 and get confirmation before proceeding for stamping. It is better to check your lawyer to get the right legal advise.

I chose Delhi and will do it again in Dec at Delhi...

You are not the only one to get that message. Info pass appointments are tough to get now. Check during odd hours. I finally found one after hours. ASC's are NOT the same as Field offices. Also Some Field offices require you to show the corresponding state drivers license.
Since my current EAD is expiring Sep 10th, I'm planning to go to the local USCIS office for an interim EAD in first week of Sep.
What is the procedure, do i need to take infopass or any other apoointment or just walk in with papers ?
It's not yet been 90 days since i filed, but i still want to give it a shot. I plan to take a letter from my employer saying without interim EAD (without me being able to work) company would face a setback in a critical phase of project.
I also plan to use such a letter in support of an expedite request.
Gurus please advice:
- How soon should I fax expedite request?
- How soon/late should i go to local USCIS office for interim EAD?
- Could one interfere the other?

You are right, jaggu. The 485 form does list the letter from employer on employer's letterhead as initial evidence.
Probably in the old days, they would have sent an RFE for that document. But now, as per Yates memo, they will reject it instead of sending an RFE.

nope on an EAD, my h1 is long expired and never renewed it even with the employer that sponsored my GC. i was using EAD even with them..and with the current employer too..

I submitted my 485 in julyEven i applied for my wife too.....we both got EAD, AP...She left to India...we have problems and we may seperate each other...So not sure when we get divorce because of outdated Indian marriage laws...Are there going to be any problems when they are adjudicating my 485 application? Her FP done and she got AP until Sep 2008...Now what will happen if USCIS sends out an FP notice for my wife...She won't be doing finger printing...Is it going effect my GC in anyway?
It will not affect your GC in anyway. They will send RFE for your wife when it comes for adjudication. You can reply thru your lawyer, based on your marital status at that time, the appropriate answer.
AFAIK, if she does not come back before the date mentioned in the AP (sept 2008), she will abandon the GC application unless she has a valid dual intent visa.
Hope things work out between you and your wife.

i have applied for AP 3 months back for myself (primary) and my wife. we got wife's AP 3 weeks back. not even LUD on mine. so i faxed expedite request on Jan26th.
Got a letter 2 days back saying,
' this aknowledges ur expedite fax. we have been unable to locate any record of a decision made on ur case. if u desire, u can file a duplicate application'.
they asked to send dup application with a 'Attention: Do not open in mailroom, deliver to co-ord supervisor'.
they also enclosed an bright orange letter for expedite proc and asked me to place on top.
the header of this orange letter reads 'Attachment 4: NSC has determined that ur appl previously submitted cannot be located :-( therefore u r requested to file a duplicate'.
im guessing in the pile of apps, they couldnt fetch mine :-(
i kinda ignored this letter and been preparing for H1 stamping back home. took VFS appointment, plane tix, what not.

so i am guessing they located my application and started working on it.

It Looks somebody pointed out earlier that Adjudicator need to see Currentness of FBI background check, and for 2004/05 cases it was stale data, hence they reordered the Check. While for 2006, Background check might be current.
So say during September, 2008 VISA Bulletin they move Priority date to 2007, we'll see Lots if 2007 cases Approved.
then why is'nt NSC approving 2006 cases at the rate at which TSC is?

One of my cousin works in oracle and he has mentioned to me that oracle is not filing in EB2 category (they used to file before), not sure is it for every one or depends on team to team or person to person.
I would advice you better check in advance as soon as you have job confirmation
